Hey guys. I want to get the new MGS4 Bundle. I may need a lil advice.
Would it be wise to get rid of my 40gb to get the new MGS PS3? Im thinking about how more reliable the 40gb is over the other versions and that is going to be a concern for me. esspecially since I had the 60gb model and it lasted 10months before I had to exchange it for the 40gb I have now. (Blueray disks stopped playing)

Get the 80 gig bundle if you want to play ps2 games on your ps3. It also has 4 usb slots and memory card readers.

In terms of hard drive space, 40gb is sufficient. I have a 40gb with GTA IV, Gran Turismo and MGS 4 installed on it...also got a few playable demos installed, and I still have 15gb space free.

Well it depends on what you are going to use it for.
I have a 60gb and thats all full, i keep on having to delete things which sometimes i would like to keep.
Im looking to buy a 320gb so if you want it for media puposes the bigger hardrive is better...

i have a 40 gb and have found the space no where near sufficient.

I have GTA4, GT5:P and COD4 installed and quite a few demos.

I have a very small amount of music tending to keep only 1 playlist(20 songs) on the ps3 however in films and videos is where the memory goes.

I want to have triple the number of films and redo certain lesser quality films as well as adding episodes from a few key TV shows, noticably family guy and south park. Also Play TV will take a large amounts of memory.

As i have a ps2 firmly entrenched in its current position and my certainity of getting a larger Hard drive means the only way i would prefer the 80GB model is the card readers(which i don't need) and USB drives(i don't really want even with play tv i would have enough)

Yeah it does depend on what you use it for, but I have 500gb on my PC so all my movies, music, etc, are stored on my PC. No need for me to put anything other than games on my PS3......

I got the 40gb and I'm kicking myself now. Not that it is a bad console, I just would love to have the backwards compatibility. The extra 100 dollars for backwards compatibility, extra HD space, more USB ports and card reader seems like a good deal to me. I'm considering trading the 40 in and getting an 80.

I read some where from a very strong source that Sony going to release a FW thats going to make the 40GB backwards compatible.

That would be amazing but I think its more complicated than that. Something about the 40gb not having the hardware needed to play the ps2 games. I read a discussion about it a while back but I've forgotten now.
Edit
Maybe we will get lucky and it will happen but I think thats a big selling point for the 80gb, or back in the day the 60gb, so it wouldn't make sense to give the 40gb ps3s the backwards compatibility.

Well I will most definately be getting the MGS4 bundle. My 40gb Blueray drive just kicked the bucket on me last night. I was playing the Spiderman 3 Blueray that came with the 40gb and the movie just stopped playing and stayed on one frame. I figured the disk was dirty and jsut tried to fast forward past that scene, but nothing. Ended the session, (Disk didnt even have lint on it) tried to play the disk again and all I get is a blank screen. then I started to put in MGS4 and GTA4 and the lil circle at the top right just kept spinning. GTA4 was loading overnight and never produced a disk to select to polay the game............
THis is the second ps3 Ive had where the Blueray lense died on me. My 60gb lasted from feb 07 until Dec 07. NOw this 40gb barely lasted 6 months!!!!! It cant be an overheat issue because my home stays cool through the day. I live in Texas so I have no choice but to keep the air running, even when Im not there. I have the protection plan at gamestop so Im not that pissed, but its all about the ill feeling you get when you realize that whatever you invested your hard earned money into has jsut died.

Strickly software related, a simple update would add backwards compatibility to 40GB PS3's, though i'm amazed they haven't done this
