iam having lots of problems with gecko the same ones as storm.

i bought a wii with a Serial number that had D2C2, aka D2C verison 2 and needed the D2pro 9 wire chip.i bought one with the Wii-Clip v4C, (Solderless Interface for D2pro 9 wire) already soldered and the USB Gecko - Homebrew Device/Backup Wii games to go with it.

i followed all the links on how to install chip...tested it and everything worked fine.i even got hold of a iso file (mario kart) and burnt it and it worked fine.however i can not get usbgecko to rip games and have followed the steps below...

1. Download the latest version of USB Gecko Loader "Gecko 0.5 PAL ISO" from www.usbgecko.com download page. ( for Australian D2C ChippedWii)

2. Unzipped the ISO and burned to a DVD-R disc using Nero.

3. Downloaded the latest version of USB Gecko PC Tool application "Gecko 0.5 PC TOOL" from another site as the usbgecko.com link doesn't work.(ive even tryed 0.49 and 0.51 both do the same)

4. With Wii turned off, plugged the USB Gecko card into Slot-B (not slot-A!) of the Wii Gamecube memory card port

5. Boot up PC

6. Plug USB cable into USB Gecko card in the Wii

7. Plug USB cable into a PC USB port. (note: PC does not and shouldn't show any detection of a USB device)

8. Turn on the Wii.

9. Insert the USB Gecko Loader "Gecko 0.5 PAL ISO" DVD-R disc that was just burnt.

10. Select A to continue of Wii startup screen

11. Gecko Loader disc appears as a "Gamecube game" on the Wii.

12. On the Wii click on "Gamecube game" to start.

13. The program takes several seconds to load and then shows a "USBGecko Development Adaptor" window on TV screen with the message 'Waiting for Command From PC'.

14. Then start the "Gecko 0.5 PC TOOL" application "Geckotool.exe" on your PC

15. USB Gecko on Wii & PC is now ready to use.

16. For example: To make a Back Up of a genuineWii Game - eg. Wii Sports

17. Eject the "Gecko 0.5 PAL ISO" DVD-R disc from the Wii.

18. Insert original Wii disc eg. "Wii Sports" disc into the Wii.

19. The "USBGecko Development Adaptor" window on TV screen will remain unchanged, still showing the message 'Waiting for Command From PC'.

20. On your PC, in "GeckoTool" tool bar, click 'Media' then 'DVD Extractor'

21. A new sub-window is displayed on the PC called "Gecko DVD Extract Tool

22. Click "Extract DVD" button.

23. Enter "File name" and directory location to create the ISO file, then click save.

24.The Wii spin up the disc and display extra messages on the TV screen, "Setting up drive", Wii DVD detected", "Extracting DVD to PC"

from this point, the progress bar doesn't fill at all (waited 3 hours for any sign once.... ), . I get NONE of the following

25. On the Gecko Tool on the PC, the message "Extracting Wii Single Layer Image. Please Wait." will be displayed.

26. As the extracting progresses the Blue slider bar will fill progressively to the right for 2-2.5 Hours while extracting to the PC.

27. When the extracting is completed as message "Finished Extracting Game" will be displayed on the Gecko Tool on the PC.

28. There will be no change on the Wii TV screen it will display only 'Waiting for Command From PC', "Setting up drive", Wii DVD detected", "Extracting DVD to PC".

29. The ISO for the Game can be found in the correct directory.

30. Close down PC tool and eject Wii Sports disc from Wii.

31. Turn off Wii

32. Remove USB Gecko card from Slot B of Wii and USB port of PC.

33. Burn backup copy of Wii Sport Game using "Nero" to DVD.

34. Later, load burned copy of Wii Sport Game disc in Wii and start as per genuine Wii Sports Game.

35. Play

ive got usb2,i tryed different usb leads, uninstalling drivers....re-installing drivers, ive tryed different pcs,duo core and single (all of which are xp) which makes me think along the same lines as storm how wrote

"So, unless someone can point out something else to me or can say they've done it with a D2C2 Wii, at this point I would have to assume that USB-Gecko doesn't work with the D2C2 Wii revisions or the usbg unit I bought is faulty."

so does the usb gecko work with a d2c2 wii for ripping dvds?
