Not sure where this topic goes. I am have issues w/ a few of my hard drives and not sure if related or if related to how they were formatted or what PC they were formatted and used on.

The 1st issue was two EDIE PATA HDDs on a Jmicron controller on my ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA SE keep dropping out of Windows detection and sometimes returning that "yellow" Windows error that says something about Windows cannot save data for such & such (a directory to something on that drive I was using earlier). Again, not sure if it is the mobo and controller.

The next issue is really bugging me now. I have a spare drive to recover DATA from an earlier HDD that was lossing DATA from a bad Windows checkdisc. So I had lots of items backed up on another PC, was using it as such for a few months but now after PC was off for service of CPU cooler (nothing else) I go to get HDD to brouse items and the disc now only shows up as a dynamic disc in disc manager w/ an astric or something and no letter assignment. I believe I used Norton Partition magic to format and partition this new drive on one of the 3 PCs I had running (cannot remember wich one for sure). I open Partition magic on this one and it doesnt give me much options.

What went wrong? What can cause a disc to become unaccessable to Windows just over night by moving from one PC to another? I will try tomorrow to boot up the 1st PC to see if its OS can see the drive and report back, but I am real curious why I cant see it here. 1st PC is Server 2003 Enterprise R2 SP2 x86, and 2nd PC is XP Pro x64 SP2.

This happened a few weeks back where the drive partitioned w/ Partition magic and one w/ XP just starting reading out Windows delayed write error failed to save warnings and after restarting, the drive was no longer available to brouse. It asked to be initialized in task manager. This was a SATA150 HDD on this PC.

The messae red as "Windows failed to save data for X:\Mft. where "X" is the letter of the given drive.

Thankx for any time to at least read.

O.K. I connected the current HDD (EIDE/PATA) to the PC I believe I initiated it on and it showed up in exploere fine. Except Disc Manager describe the 2 partitions as "simple volume, healthy (the light olive drab colored, goldish green).

So knowing this now, why couldn't I se it as such in another PC?

I'm not sure why I did it this way, but can I change it w/o risk of loss of data or is it best to back up and reformat? If I reformat, what is the best method from now on as far as Windows inviroment? I have Norton Partition Magic but it is v8 and I knwo it's maybe old. Could that have an effect on the partitioning and formatting job?

Just to add, the drive in question was removed from the 1st PC while it was in an ACPI S4 "Hibernate" state of power management. Did this matter?

Thanks.
