Hi all

I have just bought a new DVDRW (NEC 2500 8x, -+RRW). Can you tell me what would be the best DVD media to backup my Lords of the Rings Extended Edition discs?

I am using DVD Shrink (latest version). Would it be better to to use DVD-R or DVD+R? I primarily playback using a regular Sanyo DVD player and my Xbox.

Cheers for any help.

Regards
Skim~

I wish I could tell you the best DVD media to buy, but the truth is that the world of DVD burning is dominated by firmware/software/media incompatibilities. You've no choice but trial and error like the rest of us. I would recommend getting hold of one of those sample packs containing a selection of media and then do some experimentation. If you go to NEC's web site you should find a list of compatible media for your burner too. You'll find a combination that works eventually. As for DVD-R or +R, I think -R offers a slightly better compatibility with standalone DVD players. Doesn't the NEC only burn 8x with +R ? That may make your decision for you.

You won't go wrong with DVD Shrink. It's excellent.

Hi, traxdata and Clone Disc are the best Ritek discs to go for. You can get the Clone Disc at www.dvd-and-media.com in the +/-R format, however they are 4x discs that are capable of writing at 8x. I will be testing the genuine DVD+R/-R 8x discs in a few weeks on the website in my signature, under media tests

My experience has been that really cheap "no-name" DVDs don't play-burn well, but I haven't had a problem with the name brand stuff (Khpermedia, Fuji, Memorex, Liquidvidio). Also, I discovered that just because your DVD player says that it will play DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW it may not. Sony players seem to be the most reliable. I tried a Panasonic and a Hitachi before I read a thread on this site recomending Sony. I've got three different models and they all play everything I put in them. The only problem I wasn't able to overcome with Sony was I wanted a combo VCR/DVD player, but the DVD play on the combo model wouldn't play the backup movies.

A Newbie forevermore...

I put my vote in for Ritek / Ridata disc also. they are great. over 1000 burned and only 1 media coaster.

6 PIONEER A07 / 107 8x ± hacked firmware
RITEK RULES !!!!
Best way to backup that movie
1 DVD Decrypter 3.5.2.0
2 DVD2One 1.5.2
3 Nero 6.3

Problem being that the 2500A has known issues with Ritek -R media....

Seems to work with just about anything else though. With this drive, my advice would be Ritek/Ricoh +R or MCC (Verbatim) -R or +R.
