Hello, just thought I might share my awful experience with everyone. Last night, I was backing up a PS2 game with DVD Decyrptor, and I noticed in the task bar an exclamation mark, and an error stating C:windows/system32/some file is corrupt, or missing or something like that. I couldn't go to properties of icons, or go into the control panel, or anything. I tryed rebooting, but only to find that some system file was missing, and XP couldn't boot. I thought about using the recovery console, but said screw it because so many things needed replacing. I ended up having to reformat, and re-install XP. Could this have been a worm, or virs?? Help?

Windows seems to have a penchant for messing itself up. I've had similar things happen in the past. When windows starts being a royal pain in the butt on a daily basis I just reformat and begin anew. My computer skill aren't to the point where I can start rooting out sys32 troubles so I just use the "sledgehammer" approach :)
Sorry to hear of your troubles though.

On a serious note XxHaXx, i personally burn all the important stuff onto a blank cd-r every week, a bit anal, i know, but there's nowt worse than losing the same files of important stuff over & over again.
Nephilim, pleased i cheered ya up, mate, but i've honestly blue-screened more times than i can remember, and it ain't half a pain in the arse re-installing drivers etc. You forget how much crap you need to make everything work together !! I'm a builder by trade, so sledgehammers work fine for me, lol.

Nephilim, I think my PKM beats your browning hi-power :)
dude, sorry to hear about you losing all your files, but how somebody mentioned above, back up all your files once a week if you can. I also make a folder and put all my install-files (the .exe's you download that start the installer) in it, then after I've formatted each time, take that file and put it on CD. That way, next time you format again, everything you want to install is already there, and most times these programs have auto-update features that will bring you up to date.
Good luck man

I've been there too XxHaXx, about 3 weeks ago my 4 month old 80gig Western Digital HD just died after my power supply (also new) began shutting my comp at random. I lost everything to. both were replaced under warranty and work fine now.
