Hey i installed the wiikey and it reads originals but not backups ive tried sonyDVD+R disks and memorex DVD+RW although i when i soldered on the wiikey one of the wiipads came off i think point 6 but i just taped it over that spot, is that the problem?
thanks in advance
Hi 2xElite,
Kinda sounds like your chip is certainly not working. Although the disks you mentioned I personally don't use. I use Verbatim's Digital Movie DVD+R and have never had a problem. But I have to wonder where you got your chip? Was it new? If the pad came off while you were soldering...hmm. It's possible that yours may be a clone. I've attached a link for you to take a look at but there are a lot of fakes out there. Here it is http://www.foundmy.com/oscom/images/fm-wiikey-clone.jpg. I've bought chips from foundmy in the past without any trouble with them or the chips. If you have a multimeter you could test the chip to see if indeed it is bad.

It sounds like it - if only you'd used a wii-clip instead....
he Lillith88 i bought my wiikey from foundmy and it sure is real, it came with the hologram and was nowhere compared to the clone, although when it comes to burning off pads on the wii i burnt point 6 off and i tried soldering a wire from the wiikey to point 6 (after it burnt off) and still no luck how would i fix this? can i just solder the wire where point 6 leads to on the wii drive chip? thx in advance
Hey again,
Ok I think I understand now I thought you meant the pad on the Wiikey came off. You are talking about on your Wii though? On point 6? So if your Wiikey is the real deal then for sure it must be that point 6. Now back to your soldering...You've soldered before? When you say the pad burnt off? Do you mean that you maybe held the iron there a hair to long and everything kinda got brown and burned up looking? The pads don't usually come off even if you over heat the area slightly. Is there still a hint of metal there? Or you only see green circuit board? Use some de-soldering braid to soak up whatever mess may be around on that point 6. And if you see metal after cleaning the area you can just add some flux to it and resolder the joint back into shape. Then make your final connection with your wire. And yeah, I'm thinking if you get that wire going you should be all set. Also, I would try getting that joint back first before trying to solder to the drive chip. You may not even have to do something drastic. Clean it up and see what you have there exactly. Work from there. Good Luck!
i didnt burn it it just that when i was soldering the wire on to the metal and gently pulled the wire to the wiikey, not only the wire came back but the metal point did too so there is just a brown spot under the circuit board, but thanks for the tip, i contacted a friend who was willing to lend me a wiiclip for free so ill try that out thx again for the help Lillith88
