AC3 freezes system on close

So, I'm using Windows XP, the CCCP Codecs, Media Player Classic, and SPDIF output through a digital coax output built into the motherboard. So everything works normally for playing normal stereo audio with standard codecs for things like MP3, Vorbis, etc. When I'm using MPC, I leave the directshow onthe 16bit and 32bit output modes, because whenever I switch to AC3 output, my computer freezes whenever I stop playback. I've tried going in and removing all the codecs related to AC3 from and then reinstalling a new one to avoid conflicts, but that still does not work. Any ideas? It's almost got me worried that there's a hardware issue.
