I went online and entered my serial to find out the Wii is the following:

Enter your serial number:
Your Drive Chip is most likely GC2-D2C.
Your Drive Pins are most likely not cut.

At this point what would the best Mod Chip be? Where should I buy it from?

ARGON
Infectus 2
D2Pro
Wasabi

Those are the most popular out of the bunch. All pretty much do the same.

From a cost, installation, functionality and future proofing point of view which one?

What would be the best place to buy it from?

I was looking through and found the D2C apparently also works? Does it?

ARGON or D2Pro uses the Jtag programmer system and would be better future proof.

Does either of these have the wires so you can play online without Nintendo seeing your WII is chipped. Hope that made sense :)

@Rob

You may be confusing this with Xbox modding.

Since it is the Wii DVD drive that is chipped, there is little possibiliy for Nintendo to detect a modded system.

So is there any real difference apart from the future proof of the Argon or D2pro and is it easy to fit yourself using the WII-clip.

I've got a quote or GBP £69.95 D2PRO and GBP £74.95 for the Argon both delivered back to me, does this sound like a decent price?

The D2Pro9 is DVD firmware updateable. Very nice to have, no programmer or wires needed. Not sure, but I think the argon needs a programmer hooked up to update the firmware. My choice is the D2Pro9.
I've installed 3 D2Pro9's with wiiclips. It takes a few seconds to put the clip in place once the Wii is taken apart. No problems with any of the 3.

So get the D2Pro9 pre fitted to the Wii-clip and fit it myself? I am pretty good at fidgety things!!

Just found this on the site i was gonna buy it from
'* ModChip Disable Feature - Requires two extra wires for this feature to be enabled when using the solderless version.

The D2C PRO is normally a 30+ wire soldering job, but we have integrated it with the Wii-clip to give you a completely solderless modchip install.
DONT MISS OUT! LIMITED STOCK AT THIS PRICE!
'

so I still have to solder something even with the wii-clip?

Cheers for all the help

Rob

put in your serial number and it will tell you what chip you've got do a search for that chip and the mod chip that will work.

Rob

I am confused about the D2Pro9 saying it's DVD upgradeable. Is it DVD upgradeable only with the USB programmer? On the D2pro website I only see downloads for firmwares which use the programmer. I don't see any DVD updates.

The 9 wire should come pre-installed with current firmware. There is no need to update via DVD yet becuase an updated firmware has not been released.

However there is a setup disc that can be burned to DVD and used.

My D2Pro9 came with firmware 1.3. I used the 1.4 utility disc to update the firmware to 1.4. Then SSBB would play. I think there is a 1.5 update out now, but I don't have the problem that it fixes. In the resource section of their site, the 1.5 utility dosc is an iso that you burn to DVD and use to update the chip. No programmer needed.

There is a 50% chance that your drive chip is a GC2-D2C

There is a 50% chance that the pins on your drive chip are not cut.

According to this info, which mod chip should I get? And where is the best place to order from?

Hi there, the best solution for all wii chipsets at the moment is the d2pro, it is 100% stable, has great support and is dvd upgradable.
Another good solution is the d2sun which works on all chipsets but is quite a bit cheaper, it's really up to you.
You can buy them presoldered to wiiclips and ready to go at my webshop.
If you have any questions please just email me.
All the best,
Allan.

pre-soldered wiiclip and d2sun 3.0 for all drives - £36.99
new d2sun 3.0 for all drives = £28.99
Pre-soldered D2sun 1.3 and wiiclip for all drives £29.99
New r4ds flash cards +2gb card for dslite £28.99
wii replacement chipped drive = £89.99
All the cheapest in the u.k with next day special delivery

I have heard that the D2Pro v3 is not compatible with the D2C chipset.
They say on the website that it is compatible with ALL chipsets, but I have been told otherwise from people.
Any thoughts on this?

I'm wondering this as well. I bought a wii a week ago and I don't have a screwdriver to open the thing up. I can just get a dc2pro9, but I'm not sure if I should get the d2c/dc2c version or the d2e version which would need 'v3' of the chip. I'm also not sure how to tell if my drive is d2e even if I could open the wii up.

The drive chip will have d2e printed on it if it's a d2e but if your not sure which drive it is then you could go for the new d2sun version 3.0 it's programmable , it's only 7 wires with just one wire to the drive chip or you can get it with a wiiclip and it has an external on/off switch as well, works with all drive chipsets ,just set the 4 jumpers on the top of the chip and off you go.
I have them in stock if you'd like to take a look.

pre-soldered wiiclip and d2sun 3.0 for all drives - £36.99
new d2sun 3.0 for all drives = £28.99
Pre-soldered D2sun 1.3 and wiiclip for all drives £29.99
