I am a noob at this and have been wanting to convert my PSP over to some homebrew stuff for a while but I never have goten to it. I am running a fat PSP with sony's 3.80v. I have one of those mother boards with the gold lettering on it. (I forgot what there called) I was wondering how I should go about downgrading my PSP and what homebrew I should put on it. I was thinking about Devhook and IR shell. Also is there anyway i can reverse all this at a later date if i choose to go back to regular firmware? Thanks for the help

To downgrade or unbrick your PSP, u need the Pandora's Battery. There is three ways to get the Pandora Battery.
1. Find a someone who has a Custom Firmware that is willing to let you borrow their psp. You will use his psp to softmod the battery. Meaning using software to make the Pandora. If you willing to do this, follow this guide:
GUIDE
2. Hardmod the battery. Meaning that you have to open that battery up, and pulling out a pin. Note that if you pull the wrong one, your battery would be messed. If you are willing to do this, follow this guide
GUIDE
3. The most safest way, is to buy the DATEL tool battery. It is already a premade pandora battery. If so, follow this guide or use the same guide on the second step.
GUIDE
The gold letters, u meant TA motherboards rite? It dosent matter now. No need for devhook, just get a custom firmrware

u need to downgrade ur firmware, so u can upgrde to a custom firmware. Custom firmware can only be installed with 1.50.
Just follow the guide. It will lead you to downgrade and upgrade to a custom firmware.

ok so I have been following the instructions from
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/552549
but seem to have a problem when formatting. error reads, open error (read). does anyone know what that means? can i skip formatting like this if i already formatted it in windows and checked to make sure there is no data on it.

ok so i have come a ways but i am now stuck. I have run the pandora program to make myself a magic memory card but i don't know what to do from here. How do i actually get my psp from v.3.80 to v.1.5 like is required. the directions are a little grey. I so far have not been able to run the pandora battery creator and keep getting error codes like "80020148" and "8002014c"

you should buy a pandora tool battery from dealextreme.com its 10.50$+free shipping.on amazon.com you can buy a 512mb pro duo card for 8.95+free shipping you just have to find it[its good as a dedicated mms)after you get that stuff follow this guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313 it will bring you from firmware 3.80 to 3.71m33-2 it will show you how to make a mms with your memory card and help you upgrade to a higher firmware if you wish (i recommend 3.90m33-3 with 1.50v2 addon)

the guide i linked is kind of confusing in that part but it sounds like you made the mms correctly. the files on it will be booted and installed onto the psp when its in service mode the pandora puts it in service mode. you cant use your psp to make the pandora battery because it doesnt have custom firmware. if you buy the pandora you just put it in the psp with your mms already inside and it will bring you to 3.71m33-2. follow the guide or ask questions for more clarification

Using Youtube helps as well just in case you need to see it done instead of just reading how its done.
