Go HERE and follow this guide. You will start off under the section of "SE/LE/OE custom firmware users start here"
That will update your PSP to 3.52 M33-4 from there you can update to any other custom firmware above 3.71 M33/3.80 M33/3.90 M33

There is always a chance of bricking.
You will need to go to 3.52 m33-4 first then you could upgrade staright to 3.90 M33.

hmm k, last question i have read that before upgrading/downgrading you need to have a backup, how can i make a back up? do i have to downgrade 3.03 oe to 1.5 or upgrade directly to 3.5? tnx for your time

There is no way to make a backup unless you use a NAND dump which you will need to search for an application that will work with your custom firmware version. The safest way for you to upgrade would be using this guide HERE and create a Pandora Battery + Magic memory Stick. It would be safer for you to use incase you happen to brick. This method is actually an unbricker but you can use it to upgrade as well. It will upgrade you to 3.71 M33-2 and then from there you can go to 3.90 M33-3. This method has a NAND backup option as well in the Pandora menu that you can perform before downing the update.

Cuz when u upgrade, it will check if it the right files and if it is corrupt. Then it will check ur battery life and such. AS long u follow the instructions and dont turn off the psp while upgrading ...
Anyways, if u still dont want to ...

Here is the guide. Make the battery with ur psp.

I already posted both of those guide links. Try going to them and reading them before asking more questions that are answered in the past post in this thread already.

I wasn't referring to you mrgooey when commenting about reading the past post. I was referring to the original poster. Reading goes along way and it isn't as difficult as they seem to think it is as long as they read and follow the guides and links that are provided.
