Wii Rock Band Update Question

I read the sticky above and although I *think* I am clear on this point, I'd like to make sure before I update my system via Rock Band

-My Wii was purchased in 12/06 in the US.

-I have lived in China since then, where I got a Wiikey installed shortly thereafter. I have not run into a firmware update before, and I do not have 1.9s for the WiiKey.

My question:I just bought Rock Band from the US, where I originally bought the system. It is my understanding despite not having done updated to 1.9s, nor having a brickblocker, the fact that I am using an American Wii with a copy of Rock Band purchased in America means that no ill will befall my Wii if I update.

Is this correct, and does the previous wisdom of US region console + US region game = safe/no brick issues even if modded continue to hold true for the particular update on the Rock Band disc?

Again, I read the sticky, and would like to confirm that my interpretation of it is correct.

As long as you only upgrade or play discs from within your own region then there should not be a problem with updating.

I don't know about the wiikey requirements to play rockband as I don't use that chip, maybe someone can tell you about that.
