hey. i dunno if i missed this in another thread, ive looked but didnt find it. sorry if im reposting
anyway

ive downloaded movies and ripped some of my own to my computer. then ive burnt them to dvd. the dvds are fine except sometimes they are abit pixelated, mostly in the fast scenes or when one scene quickly changes to another. the original file on my computer is fine without this problem.

i use nero7 to burn the files to dvd and a quality blank dvd. Ive also tried to slow down the buring process but still had the same outcome.

please help?

what make and model # is your burner..... and exactly what brand of DVD are you using? is it an 8x or 16x or a DL disk? the reason why I am asking this because pixelations are usually caused by poor burning to disk or bad media. soooooooooo:

1. make and model # of your burner
2. exactly what brand and speed and format media are you using (example: Sony, 8x, DVD-R media).
3. what speed are you using to burn to disk.

then I can give you more advice.

there lg 16x dvd-r 4.7.

is this your disk or your burner?

can you please answer this:

1. Make and model # of your burner! (I have 2 burners: BenQ 1655, and a Philips 8631---- and yours is?)

2. what disks are you using? (I use Taiyo Yuden, 8x DVD+Rs-----and yours is?)

you can find out your drive information by downloading DVD Identifier:
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
it's a free program...... just download and install, and then put a blank DVD in your burner and open program .... make sure the SELECT your drive and then hit IDENTIFY.... this will give you the name of your burner and the manufacturer of the disk! that is the information that I need to help you. Also please provide the firmware with the drive:

CMC Mags are the worst media for recognition and playability! they are 3rd rate media at best and are problematic! the problem with them is that they are so readily available because they make many brands that are readily in the stores to buy! Memorex is noted for CMC Mags! Here is a media guide for you:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
this guide is not without faults..... their listing of TDK as first rate is false! They are second rate at best! don't get fooled, but note that media made in Japan are the best. Taiyo Yuden is the best then Verbatim (stay away from their media made in India!). Read the labels on the box or spindle before buying! Only Taiyo Yuden doesn't out source their media so their quality control is the best!

this is a media problem MOST of the time and now seeing that you use CMC Mags..... just another reason why you should get better media!

your drive is fairly new and there shouldn't be a problem even if it has an older firmware on it! You still haven't told me what firmware you have. Is there a reason why you didn't tell?

your firmware is out of date..... there is new firmware since Dec, 2007:
1.24
click on the link and update your firmware!

Firmware is programming that is inserted into a programmable memory area of your drive, thus becoming a permanent part of a drive. This 'software' is called firmware and can be updated with a firmware flasher. A firmware upgrade can add new functionality to your drive. Also bug fixes and improvements are done by firmware upgrades. It also adds more media codes and write strategies to the drive to improve burning capabilities and disk recognition. Doing a firmware upgrade should only improve your drive.

now do a firmware update and fix your drive to be up-to-date with all the newer media out there!

@Crab56......... what the Heil does your reply have to do with the problem that auzkid is having with his Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D? I am happy that you are having no coasters with what you are doing, but to say:

does not help auzkid with a firmware update, does it now?

IHoe, Well it looked like you had already informed him of a firmware update. As for my reply - I quess I have misunderstood the concept that a forum like this was also about sharing things that have worked well for others. Since they were using poor quality discs to start with, you never know if they want to know what things are working well for others. So sorry to have mentioned a process that has worked well for me. Of course, I only have put this process together with the advice gained from other Afterdawn users that have shared with me. I have been thru CMC's, wrong software and poor hardware myself and always appreciated knowing what has worked for others. Hope all accept my apologies.

no apologizes necessary! we all learn here at afterdawn..... but.... to volunteer information that was already said:

will ImgBurn convert or compress the downloaded movies? So what you say works for you .... is totally ok..... but out of context here where auzkid is having a different problem than what your volunteered advise was. Of course you are welcomed here at afterdawn... but to give advise for the sake of giving advise (kinda like talking just to hear yourself speak) that doesn't help the person who is asking questions...... well..... it's a little rhetorical isn't it? but that's ok...... I guess.
