I have been backing up my movies for years now. I have always used DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and was using RipIt4Me for awhile. Anyways, I have come into a small glitch with using DVD Shrink. Two movies are giving me troubles, American Gangster and Live Free Or Die Hard. I can decrypt them just fine, remove the special features, and so on. I keep all my movies on a NAS so I don't have to pull the DVD out and risk getting it scratched. I like it much better this way because I don't have to deal with all the anti-piracy videos and crap that come with my legit purchased DVD.
Well, to the problem. When I run the movies through DVD Shrink to get them to DVD-R size, it seems to delete portions of the movie. Both movies play for awhile, then it seems to skip a minute or two, continue playing, then skip again. It's not an actual skip, it's like parts of the movie have been removed somehow. I've tried it several times with different settings and both DVDs come out the same way. I know I could just purchase a DL and bypass this problem, but I'm not one to just look past a problem. I want to figure out what is causing it. Does anyone have any ideas? I hope I described that well enough.
most likely its a poor quality media problem and or burn speed. use Taiyo Yuden ,Verbatim or Sony burning at 6x to 8x max on a clean machine with the most up to date firmware for your drive/burner
Both of these movies have 2 versions. Try backing up the version you want to a new folder uncompressed. Check the video in the new folder for errors. See if the uncompressed movie has these glitches. If not, shrink the new folder and check again before burning.
Yeah, I knew I didn't explain that right. I backup all my movies to a hard drive and test them in that manner before I ever have to burn the movie to a disc. These errors are happening before the burning process. It doesn't have anything to do with the burning process. It has to do with the shrinking process. I decrypt the DVD onto my hard drive no problem. I can use PowerDVD to play the movie and everything's great. I, then, try to shrink the movie (still on my hard drive) and when I load up the movie in PowerDVD again, I find the problem.
