it depends on what firmware your on at the moment anything above 3.50 will need pandoras battery but 3.50 and bellow can be downgraded to 1.50 and then you can install custom firmware.
to find what firmware you have at the moment go to:
Settings->system settings->system information
it should have system version: 3.80 or something like that
if you have a slim then pandoras battery is the only way

you're not going to get anywhere unless you have pandora's battery. that either requires buying the datel TOOL battery, hardmodding your battery, or finding a custom firmware psp.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

OK it's firmware, not firewire- that's a whole different thing. Got it? Firmware, firmware, firmware, FIRMWARE!
Please read the stickies. It's obvious that you haven't.

cfw basicly does load of things:
loads iso/cso files
loads converted psx eboots
loads homebrew
recovery mode
access flash0,1,2,3
built-in umd ripped psp->pc
thats the basics
as i said any fw higher than 3.50 will need pandoras battery
there is no other way (seem like a lot of people dont get this at the moment)
if you wanted cfw then you would go out of the way to get it (buy tool battery, hard mod and buy a new battery, buy a 256mb - 1gb memory card)
just dont comeback asking if there is another way

you're still not going to be able to play iso/cso games, because you don't have custom firmware.
THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO GET CUSTOM FIRMWARE ON 3.51 OFFICIAL OR HIGHER WITHOUT PANDORA'S BATTERY

after your short vacation, prove it. make a video of your psp running cso games without custom firmware, since you insisted you don't need it. video must be one continuous shot, and must be on the psp at all times. you must show the system information before running anything else. AND EVERYTHING MUST BE VISIBLE.

i would also like to add to cee43ja1's post a full written guide of how you did it.
im not lying to you as the main developer of CFW and running iso know thats at the mo pandoras will install cfw on a psp with any firmware.
so if the master say it then im just a messenger so if you want just say thats its not the only way at the moment to Dark_Alex.
