no there isnt a way to do that... When you boot as ME it loads all the required software to run only ME. Its like when removing/installing certain programs. Whenever you remove or install some programs it asks you to restart before the changes can make effect. Same applies for operating systems. Lets say you are in Windows Me and you want it to go to Xp. You load windows Xp but you must restart in order to use the software.

Why would you want to use ME anyway. It was probably the worst operating system ever released by MS.

I would like to do this also because some of the DVD software like ifoedit will not work with XP. I need a new CD/DVD burner and all the new ones will only work with XP and later OS. I didn't know this was possible. So, when I install XP It should give me an option to keep or delete the old OS(ME in my case)? I don't have a problem with re-starting if that is all I need to do to use the different OS. I actually like ME I have not had any problems with the stuff I run.

If you have a powerful PC you could run ME from a virtual machine but It'd still be kinda slow compared to booting normally.

I think you should just tell your dad to go to XP, ME sucks.

Grub is the real answer.. boot as many OS as you can be bothered installing.. install them all to their own partition, install the grub bootloader to the MBR and then edit it's menu file to point to every installed OS.. (95/98/2000/XP/fedora/beos/msdos/debian and QNX is the most I have ever seen on one machine 0.0)
