Samsung SDI said today that it will be spending over $500 million USD to boost production of next-generation OLED displays to six times its current level by mid-2009. OLED sounds cool, but I think I'll stick to the old inexpensive reliable cold-cathode light source. It has always work reliably in the past, though I admit my big screen feels like a heater if I get to close, thats why I have a fan to keep me cool.

But honestly, I don't have 5 years and 5 grand to wait around for a 37 inch OLED. When I'm in a nursing home, I think the OLEDS will be the norm, but not today.

My only concern about all this is, Oled is indeed the next step or Laser?
IMO LCD has many years to live.

what? I think 2 seconds of thought would help you, nursing homes are where old people live who can't live on their own any more.

Plasma, LED... I'm holding out for a large screen OLED. Just a matter of time. ;-)
