I have been through the guides and did not find any information on M4V files and how to back up or convert to other formats. I would appreciate any guidance and education on M4V files and how to manipulate them.

Thanks

AFAIK .m4v is a renamed .mp4 file.
Some information here.
This is assuming that these are non-drm protected files.

Could also try 'Any Video Converter' (free version) to convert to other formats.
