Homebrew Channel installed - now Mario Kart doesn't work

I have NTSC/US wii with a wiikey updated to the 1.9s and 3.2U firmware.

I installed the homebrew channel without any issues. Went to put in Mario Kart (on Verbatim DVD-R) and it would not load. It kept showing disc read error.
Mario Kart worked without issue before I installed the Homebrew Channel. I also tried 2 other games on Verbatim DVD-R that worked flawlessly before the HBC install...they also didn't work.

My question is why are these games not working when the HBC is installed?

Also, I did delete the HBC and tried MKart and the other games and they worked with no issue whatsoever.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there is a solution?

I'm not even sure I need the HBC at this point, but in case I do I'd like to find a solution.
