I just started using cfw and have 3.90 m33-2. Now I've been trying to hunt down just what the differences are between 3.50 - 3.90 and the different m33 versions but since i'm a psp newb, i haven't learned much. I've read through some guides and youtubed a bunch o vids, but can anyone point or explain the difference between the major releases and why would people stick with the older sets? I understand some of them are for compatibility with psx emulators but i'm not interested in that.

I would like to be able to use nes/snes/etc, emulators so are the 3.90+ versions still compatible or no? Is there any difference to cfw in being able to play newer iso's? (looking at DS roms for example and how fw has to been updated occasionly to bypass fw lockouts)

One more thing....I have a slim and pandora and when I downgraded, it was blind. Black screen, had to press "X" and hope it worked, which it did. Why can I not see the install text when downgrading when you can see it in all the youtube videos? Just curious in case I need to downgrade again to put on a better cfw for me.

Thanks for any help and pointing me in the right direction!

There isnt much difference, Ussually there could be a bug in the firmware. But soon a update will come and fix it. Most differences are comin from the pops.

If u are using 3.90 M33 and a slim, some emu would work. Cuz some emu would need 1.50 kernal, which ur slim cant have. There is lockouts for psp games. However, most psp games would say that u need to upgrade to a higher firmware to play the game. By then, a newer custom firmware would be already made.

Did u follow a guide? What did u use ? There are too many pandora apps.

I used the 14749 TOTAL newbie installer program. Later on I downloaded alex's m33-2 update after putting on the 3.90 m33. Things are working normally now, and i'm using UMDGEN v4 to compress iso's.

I was wondering, are there some iso's that will NOT work as cso's? Or does it depend on the compression program? For example, I compressed Dracula X and MGSportable ops+ and put them on the mem stick. MGS showed up fine, and Dracula didn't. I tried overwriting Drac again, no luck. Went ahead and placed the full iso instead and the ISO works...

So next game was Silent Hill. I used UMDGEN, compressed it and placed it...nothing shows up..dragged and dropped it again...and it works. What's the deal? I tried with GOW compressed and no luck after multiple attempts. Will try the full iso later perhaps.

Any difference when pressing select and chooseing "m33 driver" vs. the sony one? Thanks!

So ... when u put the CSO image it dosent show up on the psp ? Or it dosent run ? Try using the UMDGEN Batch Converter if u already didnt.

sry, but i dont understand this. So u delete the game and put it again in the same format? Or did u replace it ?

After ur installation of 3.90 M33, did u reformat the stick. If not, please do via psp.

If u are using 3.90 M33, u should stick with the m33 driver. Cuz the np9660 will lag on 3.90 M33 (unless u put the fatsmod patch - which is hard for a psp beginner, though as long u have a good guide ...). If games dont work when u put the m33 then switch to np9660 and try it. Since n9660 has more game compatibility than the m33

On some games when I put the CSO image, it doesn't show up at all in the psp menu. Not game title, no "corrupted data" or any data for that matter.

I went ahead and took the raw DracX iso, and dropped it and it did work. Don't know why the cso won't take though.

I did format the stick before and during the magic memory stick process. Didn't do it after though. What files need to be kept on it for recovery safety.(in case of bricking because it happened once when charging the pandora battery) ?

in regards to this:

I tried both ways, just drag over and overwrite, and other times deleted and replaced (through winxp in usb mode)

I don't know if the m33-3 update would matter. (going from 33-2 to 33-3) or downgrading to 3.8 something instead of 3.9.

I'm getting some lag too on Silent Hill. I have the 2 settings under select set to 333 but there seems to be some slight lagging at certain areas. I'm not sure if this is the game itself, or my memcard access. It does load very quickly from the card at the loading screens though... The game is in ISO format. Are there any tools or utilities for a slim to speed up gameplay, or do I just need to buy some ultra fast pro duo stick?

Thanks for the advice so far!
