ms28 firmware flash (read guides already)

So, I have a 360 with ms28 firmware. I DO NOT have a VIA card. What I want to know is if its possible to use the 0800 disc to disable firmguard. Because according to the textbook guide, using any hacked firmware will essentially turn your drive into a ms28 drive. So, logically, wouldn't using the 0800 disc on an ms28 to disable firmguard and just flashing it like an ms25 work?

i am not sure, never had to use 0800 disc i know the VIA card makes it painless and is a cheap investment though.
