Is there any kind of cleaner I can download to remove all codecs or is there some way I can manually do this for the ones that aren't in the add/remove programs list? I had everything working great for media player classic then I installed some codec and nothing works right with it now, nothing I do can seem to get media player classic back to a blank slate so I can restart with the codecs I know work.

try renaming mplayerc.ini to mplayerc.old and see if it fixes it when
it gets recreated.

Where would I find this .ini file? All that comes with the player is the .exe.

use the search tool to make sure, but mplayerc.ini
usually resides in the same folder as mplayerc.exe

I don't know what you're talking about but media player classic doesn't come with any .ini file in the .zip download and I even searched the computer for it and it doesn't exist.

I don't know about the zip file, but I'm pretty sure
the mplayer exe file creates the ini file when it is run (if it
doesn't already exist).

You could always reinstall mplayer.

There's no uninstall or reinstall for the player, at least on the newest versions. Every download of mplayer I can find just has mplayerc.exe in a .zip file.

OK. The version I have was installed either with real alternative
or quicktime alternative.
In the player, view/options there is a setting to "store settings
to .ini file".

It's supposed to use it if that is checked, other than that I can only
assume it's using the registry otherwise.

What codecs have you installed? And what files are having issues?
There is a tool called filmerit
and it will tell you if there's a codec problem.
