Is there a way to swap the 20gb HDD in the 360 for a 160gb WD SATA HDD?
Mine is a WD1600BEVS-22RST0

some people have 500 gig drives. so a dif drive is possible, but i do not know the specs, as i believe it has to be a certain kind of drive. WD might be it.

You could be a larger HDD in there, but it would only be seen as 120GB since that's the largest HDD that's officially out there. Plus you can't just pop another hard drive in there. There's a hack you'd have to do, but it's not hard.

So, there's a 120 gb HDD size limit for the 360?

there no limit. You can have 250gb if you want but you need a computer that can format your harddrive over 32gb because the Xbox360 use FAT32 format and the max FAT32 would format on your computer is 32gb. There are guides out there on how to do this google it up there should be a few.

Thanks, guys!
BTW, I have a 250 gb in my original xbox and was hoping I could put a larger HDD in my new 360. It's nice, being able to choose a game on the HDD without needing to put a disk into the drive.

the format type of the HDD doesn't support for files as big as 360 games......that would be my guess as to why.... and MS probably did a good job at locking that ability...development for the 360 has been slow....

OK, I'm new to the 360.
I started Halo 3 today and am liking it a lot!
I had hoped the HDD could be set up like the original Xbox.
At least I can play backups on it after I flash the DVD drive.Just need to figure out how to do that.
I have a Philips & Benq drive, lot #818. I understand it can be modded to run the backups.
Looks like I have a lot of reading and learning before I can attempt that. Hopefully, down the road we'll be able to use bigger HDDs and run SW like Slayer's Evox again.

heres how to flash the benq with iprep. but make sure you buy the pci sata card that has a via 6421 chipset in it. easiest place is from newegg.com and will cost you like 15 bucks.

step 1: put USB stick into USB slot
2: open up iPrep
3: load firmware definition (1.4.1)
4: select drive letter from drop down box
5: hit make bootable
6: shut down computer
7: deassemble 360 and hook the dvd drive up to the PCI card
8: turn computer on, boot off the USB stick
9: follow command prompts (it will put the orig.bin on the USB stick after you run the dben 1234567 12345 command.)
10: shut down 360 and computer and restart into windows
11: open up Firmware toolbox and make sure the FW it dumped is a legit one. if so move on, if not do as i said before to copy and paste a legit key in it.
12: restart computer and boot off the USB drive.
13: follow command promts and run the fben 1234567 12345 command to erase/flash the drive with the 'hacked' firmware.
14: shut down 360 and computer
15: put a burnt game in it to make sure it plays.
16: if it plays, put 360 back together
17: if it doesnt play games, see if it will play original games then restart computer off the USB drive, hook 360 back up and run the rben 1234567 12345 command to restore it to original shape. and start over

How can it be a liteon if the dvd label says philips and benq?

Good news!
I just checked at www.360drives.com and found my drive model, team, lot and firmware with a comment that said it was "very hackable".
I guess I'll get myself a VIA SATA PCI card and get to work!

Time to get busy. Remember use the sata port on the card that is closest to the front of the computer, save yourself my aggravation! You'll be there in no time.
