My UMD drive not working, and I don't know why

My umd drive was working fine up until about a week ago, when it just stopped working. I thought it might be due to the fimrmware so I downgraded and upgraded back to 3.90m33, but it didn't work.

When I place a umd in the drive, the loading icon appears on screen, and a wierd sound comes from the drive. It is a kind of buzzing/whirring sound [somrthing like gz.gz.gz.gz], with a beep about every 10 seconds.

When I press the black latch on the inside of the umd drive, the black disc starts spinning, and the laser moves up and down.

I searches on the site but I'm not sure what the problem is as I don't understand much of the terminology in the threads realting to hardware.

Could someone please help me

Does your laser light up? If its still under warranty it may need to be replaced. If not then you'll either need to clean your laser or get a new laser/umd drive.

The laser does light up, when the black latch is pressed, but it moves up and down only

My warranty has finished, and I;m not too sure how to clean or replace it.

Some help please??

To clean it wipe the laser with a Qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol. See if that works.
