Having skimmed through this link

Is this list updated because the manufacturers seem to change
often?

I am planning to get the proper LG DVD-ROM.
I was first interested in the Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD-R 4x.
But even now it is no longer made in Singapore.

What is the consensus on the recommended disc now?

Is it more to the disc quality or the burn speed? Or is it
a particular brand name? I mean the above list includes
GQ (Great Quality ?!) and GQ is not really considered as a premium brand.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I backed up SSBB to GQ dual layer and it runs fine.

I use Verbatim hub printable DVD-R for the rest.

Thank you all for the info. I guess maybe "Great Quality" is great after all. You just gotta have faith at time. :)

Unfortunately, Great Quality isn't consistently "great".

What they are is consistently cheap. I only burned one DL Wii backup and it worked.

I bought a spindle of GQ DVD-R single layer and had a 20% drop-out/bad burn. I know that it wasn't my drive because the next spindle of memorex were 100%.

If you want to be serious about this, buy Verbatim -R. You will have consistent high quality.

In my experience the burner is more important than the actual Disc but only just, My wii will load almost any single layered +R dvd as should most wii's as they were designed to use this media, Dual Layer media is more tricky, I have heard stories of people not being able to play an Original copy of SSBB on theier Wii and that is why Nintendo are providing a lens cleaning service (Which I am sure involves a lot more than just cleaning the lens)

I can only use Vertabin DL media on my Wii and it can only be burned on with my Desktop LG burner as the version burned on my laptop burner won't load past the channel selection screen "unauthorised device detected" blah blah blah...

Pretty sure the best media is Vertabin, that seems to be well accepted by most people for burning anything these days, whether it be movies, games or data...
