I recently was able to get my PS2 modded with the hard drive, and when I installed God of War, the next time I booted up the PS2, I received the "it is using mode 4' message.
Is there anything that I can do to get past this? I cannot get to any menus, or HDLoader, or anything. Do I need to format the drive? I have had no other problems with any of my other games (I was playing GT4 right before the GOW install), I am wondering what I need to do.

Thanks in advance.

I could use a little more information. By modded, do you mean exploited with the Independence Exploit? Modchips have modes sometimes, too. HDLoader mode 4 is a Date/time fix, but that should only present a problem when trying to launch a game. If you are using the exploit, try various things like not triggering the exploit (removing mem card or trigger disc) - can you run the ps2 like this? If you can't get to ulaunchElf, then the problem is not the hard drive I wouldn't think. Post back with more details.
