PSP will not load game

First off, I know very little about PSP's my sons have them and I am trying to figure out why one of them won't load. Game is God of War:Chains of Olympus. The message it gives me is :Game could not be started (80020148) His system has been shutting off in the middle of playing a few time also. Any help would be great!

Firstly what firmware is the PSP on ? Also, are you trying to play an ISO/CSO ? If so then have you got a UMD in the drive ?

Need a little more info if ya can :)
