Hey everyone, I've done a lot of researching on this site and the threads have been extremely helpful thus far. But I've finally come across a situation that I can't find an answer to...

Ok, so I installed a Wiikey into my Wii roughly a month ago. After many trials and tribulations, I got the system working great. I was ripping my games to an SD card, and then using dumptool to dump them in 3 chunks to my laptop. I then burned them at 8X to Maxell DVD-Rs, and all the copies I made worked perfectly.

Well, over the weekend my friend ended up breaking my computer (long story--cracked screen, doesn't run properly anymore) and I bought a new laptop. This laptop runs Windows Vista. As many of you probably know, dumptool is incompatible with Vista, so now I can't rip using the SD card. I even read one post that said Vista will NEVER be able to run dumptool because of how it operates (the explanation was over my head). I looked into getting one of the LG drives to rip, but it seems those are all internal drives that can't be installed in the laptop.

So now I've started trying to download ISO's using torrent files with BitLord. I'm probably just not computer-savvy enough to get it working well, as my downloads currently are only coming in at around 60 kBps. I'm still on my first download, so we'll see how it works. I don't really want to spend 3 days downloading a game, especially not knowing if the file is actually valid or not. I'm not sure how to increase the download speed.

So the million dollar question--what are my options?? Is there a way to speed up BitLord downloads to make it worthwhile? A way to convert the LG internal drives to work on a laptop? Anything else I'm not thinking of?

Please help!! Thanks!

Unfortunately slow torrents are just a way of life, especially for those of us stuck on DSL. An unscrubbed game takes at least 2 and a half days for me to DL, which is why I got one of the LG drives.

As for making the drive work with your laptop, there are external drive enclosures that should work.

Thats really not the case. I have DSL through sympatico and can download games in a few hours, I usally get around 350-500k sec download speeds. You just have to be on a good private tracker like blackcats that has good seeding rules.

Also use Utorrent 1.6.1 its a much better client and make sure you have all port forwarding setup correctly.

Alternatively you could just install VMware on your vista machine then install a virtual XP client and use that exactly as you did your old XP machine.

You could also look into newsgroups. There are many and you can
download at full speed using all of your available bandwith. Prices are fairly reasonable.

You have a far faster DSL connection than me then. I'm stuck on 768kbit, which means that my max possable DL speed is around 96kb/s. But of course since I'm sharing that connection with 2 other people in the house I have to keep it throttled down to 40kb/s at most or they cant do much of anything online. So even DLing from a good source like blackcats with that low of a limit it takes a couple days.

oh ok, yep at that speed it would take a while :)

I have a 5Meg DSL link which generally performs pretty well, except between 5pm and midnight when Sympatico feel fit to throttle all P2P traffic on their network.

Hey Penguin 98,
Just a suggestion here but if your sharing a line with other folks
look into cfos Speed. It's a traffic shaping program that really helps speed things up when you have torrents running in the background. Makes surfing A LOT easier for those without oodles of bandwith to spare! Great program love it.
