I am getting ready to purchase a digital camcorder and would like to spend about $400, and possibly up to $700. Obviously, opinions differ, but I would like advice on the camcorder "generally accepted" to be the best in the $400-700 price range. Qualities that are important are great video, followed by above average sound, followed by good still picture quality (unless this requires raising the price dramatically when an equivalent camera--minus good still pictures--can be purchased for less), followed by cheaper memory sticks and batteries, etc. Thanks for the advice!

p.s. if I can get great picture and pretty good sound for cheaper--say around $400--wouldn't it be better to just buy the cheaper digital camcorder and, in addition, buy a decent digital camera for my still pictures?
