Hi guys,

First of all, i am sorry if I have asked something that has already been answered, but got a few questions and thought it would be best to ask them all in one go!!!

So, firstly, would anyone be kind enough to explain what actually happens, the process when you have an avi file, and then convert it using a program to put it onto a dvd???!!!

I have been using DVD Santa for ages now, and it worked evertime, although it seemed to take a long time, maybe 3 hours to convert and put on a dvd. is this normal? But now, the last 4 times i have tried to put a file on dvd, it only comes out with audio, no picture, and i have used a few different files so its not the same file I have tried to convert. Any ideas as to whats happened there? Will i need to uninstall and install again?

Also, is there a program out there that does everything like dvd santa that is faster? Any suggestions on any good programs?

There, done for now!

Thanks

I don't know much about DVD Santa as I don't using it. I use ConvertXToDVD. As you know AVI files are not DVD compliant files so you have to convert them to play on a regular DVD player. That's why you use DVD Santa. As far as how long it takes to convert the files to DVD compliant files and burn to a DVD will depend on your computer and how fast it is. So if you are using an old computer then, yes, it can take hours! If you have a newer computer it can take mins!!! so it depends on your system.

ConvertXToDVD is a much better program to use than DVD Santa as I'm pretty sure more people use and praise ConvertXToDVD than DVD Santa. At least I hear better praise in the forum for this program than DVD Santa.

Agree with Ihoe here.

ConvertXtoDvd is probably the way to go. I briefly used Dvd Santa and wasn't real thrilled with it.

First to the AVI. it stand for Audio, Video Interleave. It could be anything.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVI

In these forum in most cases it is referenced to mpeg4 format.
DVD require mpeg2 format. If you use converters like Santa, they convert what ever format into mpeg2 video and LPCM or AC3 audio required for DVD compliance.

If your software stop working, it could be due to some corrupted file. The way to fix it is reinstall it.
For other all in one software see this:

I do not use any of those. I use dedicated software, but ConvertX is really popular, so I guess it is good.
You see this converter being used by lots of people on different forms.
