Hi,
I was just wondering why Toshiba HD-A3 Players, play DVD + R -RW. But
will not play the +R Format Disc.

I have a ton of Tayo + R discs and I can burn a movie on there, and
watch it on other players But The HD-A# doesn't let me any thoughts.

And Last But not least does the toshiba take a -R Burned DVD.
And if it dortesn't then what good is it for.....

Hey,
Yes I have 2 optical drives One is a Lite-On and I downloaded the utility changed to book mark and saved .

WEhen IO'm dobe I use DVD IOdebtifier I put it in my playuer and takes a really long time top load. But then it does start to play. I have only watched about 5 minutes of a movie but it woyked out.

I wonder if the only one and last Firmaware Update helped this
problem or made it worse.

I was a little naive when I bought mine its HD DVD and a uconverter. Of course it should play all formats. Live and Learn, cause thetre it was on the box...........

ofield,

Although I don't have an A-3, contrary to what the manual states, I was very surprised to find that my Toshiba HD players do indeed play both +R's and DL +R's. The majority of my backups have the booktype changed but once in a blue moon I do forget. My LG burner needs to have it set everytime.

You can try a few things:

The latest firmware is 3.0

1. Initialize your player. This should be done after every firmware update. (You will lose your settings and need to reset)

Setup>General>Maintenance>Initialize

2. Delete your persistant storage

Setup>General>Maintance>Persistant Storage> yes to all

3. Change the Twin Disc Format to DVD. I read on one of the other forums to leave it on DVD. I do and my players have no problem recognizing HD or DVD.

Setup>General>Maintenance>Twin Disc Format>DVD

It is possible that perhaps you burnt your TY's too fast. Remember the rule of thumb: 1/2 the rated speed. Your LiteOn is great for booktyping.

Good Luck

Hi,
Thanks alot for the advice but my Lite-ON is a External USB EZ-DUB
Optical Drive. I'm not sure about our firmware's. I don't want to turn
my burner into a brick.

Any way after I Booktype a movie using the Lite-On Utility The +R
Disc is indeed changed to a DVD-ROM. DVD Identifier Confirms this..

So since it is a DVD ROM shouldn't it play in the Toshiba HD-A3
HD DVD Player. It is no longer a +R disc ??

Any more help would be Great Thanks....

ofield,

Yes, it should play in your player. By changing the booktype to DVD-ROM, players are tricked into thinking the disc is the real McCoy (ie. the original). This gives the highest compatibility.

Use good quality discs, burn at half the rated speed, and change the booktype of your + media to DVD-ROM, and you should be trouble free.
