i haven't had a good internet connection in a couple of years, and now i've got one and am wondering what program is best for file sharing.

i've read about how kazaa is now kind of a mess, but i don't know what else is out there.

i'm primarily looking to download music, and i want something that's fast, doesn't have a lot of fake files, and is relatively easy.

anything stand out these days?

thanks

IRC is by far the best place to be. check my sig for a newbie guide on getting to IRC.

Well all depends man, you said you would mainly d/l music files.

Well irc is not really tha best for that(unless lp release or remix like that), I would use that only for hard to find movie tv shows or recent lp.

I would try Ares(napster clone) for music only, hashing is really annoying though so no movies.

Movies would be bittorrent and emule(also good for LP's), try to catch movies when just released cause you can get reaal fast in bittorent and real sloow in emule.

And when you got a good roster of files you should try dc++, you need files to get in the hubs, and lots of ops(sometimes gets annoying) making sure everybody shares. Best all around file sharer IMO.

everything you stated could be got from all these different p2p's and such all originally comes from IRC, then trickles down to the p2p's. yet none of those clients even come close to comparing to the transfer speeds and wide availability on IRC. If ou get better speeds from bit torrents or any form of p2p, you're not hitting the right IRC channels.

funny i didn't even mention speed. But yeah Irc is probably the fastest(bittorent comes very close second), but as far everything trickling down from irc I don't know about that 1(most likely to release it first true).

But I far as searching it for music, if didn't come out in the last 2 yrs you're lucky(plus not a good idea to to find it. individual music files are better to try to find them on ares or dc++(when you get some files of course).

And note really newbie friendly (not to say it's hard, but it norm "search and find" p2p's likely use to, but if it's new you can't find it IRC efnet rocks!)

Biggest thing that gives folks a pain in the butt over searching in DC is that they are in passive mode. Searches don't work well in passive.

If you know how to configure your firewall/router then go to active mode and you will find that your searches are more effective.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
