You could buy an external burner and plug it in via usb to your laptop.

Ok yeah, make sure to use "Imgburn" for your backups. Burn at 4x and get yourself some Verbatim's DVD+R DL. Then you should be all set. Also, on another post Shummyr posted a guide for using Imgburn you might want to check out
