Hello,

As the thread title says, I can't play mkv files properly in WMP using Haali Media Splitter. Playing a mkv file results in one of these two scenarios:

1: The file starts playing, but if I want to skip ahead a couple of minutes it gives me a runtime error.
2: It immediately gives me a runtime error.

Here's the error (image picked from Google Images, just replace iexplorer.exe with wmplayer.exe and it's my error):

I used to be able to play these mkv's without any problems. Codecs/utilities installed:

- Haali Media Splitter
- ffdshow 22-06-2008
- CoreAVC Professional (uninstalling this one doesn't solve it)

This combination always worked for me. I run Vista by the way.

the best thing to play mkv files is vlc or media player classic 321 most but not all video file formats really don't like being fastforwarded much the only ones i have had no problem fast forwarding in media player is mpeg typ codecs.

The point is that I used to be able to play the same mkv files I'm trying to play now, and I used to be able to seek through them at my liking.

Using VLC is not an option, since I genuinely dislike it ;). Besides, I want to use one player for all my media, which I normally have with Windows Media Player.

I don't recall installing anything special that could be causing it, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.

sorry I hit send to soon I wanted to add that MKV is not a windows media player supported format, so I don't know how you got it to play in there. You can find supported formats by opening WMP and going to file click open and supported formats its not there sorry dude. here is a link to supported file types http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...inalid=80040265
here is another link to matroska file playback

I fixed it with a reinstall of Windows, was about time anyway.

By the way, getting MKV to play in WMP is just a matter of installing Haali Media Splitter (MatroskaSplitter). In my case it was installed in conjunction with CoreAVC, and now I can just play and fast forward as much as I like again.
