Hello again everyone, does compressing a movie alter the quality of the film? On DVD Shrink, I noticed that you can compress the movie dramatically and keep all menus and extras but will this make a quality DVD?

simple answer.....

no it wont, the bigger the compression and the more special features/menus everything else u keep on it the less quality u get. so if i were u id either a. buy a program like CloneDVD & anyDVD which you can compress and pick exactly what you want eg menus special features subtitles etc or B just copy the main movie get rid of the subtitles the EXTRA audio and the menus etc so u can get a good quality backup.... lol tis just what i do & just a suggestion
do wiht it as you plz :-)

Thanks LoNeR for the suggestion. I am really new at this. So it is possible to choose exactly what you want. I happen to like the extras like "deleted scenes" and "alternate endings" but speak only English so there is no need for me to have the other language formats or subtitles. Can I have my extras but hold the everything else?

yer u can when u go into CloneDVD it has a list of all the things like special feature and stuff (on step one) if you click on one it will show u a preview of it in the bottom left hand corner and u can just see what u want and pick it, although the less the better ;-) but it doesent do "protected" DVDs which they all are (of course) so thats where AnyDVD comes in (both made by the same company, what a coincedence) AnyDVD is a driver that u start up and it runs in the background "unprotecting" if you like pretty ingenious way to make money really.. but they are worth the money

Of course, using CloneDVD you can always put the movie on one disc and any or all extras on a second disc. That way you will keep the compression rate up as high as possible.

tinione,

CloneDVD and AnyDVD will do exactly what your friends claim, the drawback, $$$$.

DVDShrink 3.1.4 nbeta0 will do all those things and more - if you have Nero on your system, Shrink will find it in the background and burn your disc too. Using Re-Author you can play with your DVD utill the "cows come home" - and the cost is $00.00 - neat price, Huh ?

Here is a guide and the download -
