Philips DVDR890 - Disc Error (DVD+R)

I'm buying Datawrite Yellow dvd+r discs, and when i put them in the Philips dvdr890, it records for about 5 seconds and then brings up a disc error.
I've tried a few different dvd+r discs, and they're the same.
I can use the Philips dvd+rw disc no problem.
If anyone can advise which dvd+r discs are definately going to be compatible I would be really grateful.
