hey all,

I bought my computer with vista installed, its an acer, in order to get internet access over a long distance I set up a wireless network. on the computer my wireless adapter is a dynex wireless g usb adapter. The router is a netgear 54mbps wireless router. everything installed fine, i had a little bit of a problem finding drivers for the dynex but after browsing the cd, was able to install. My network is detected fine, but it has trouble connecting to the internet. When I start the computer, the internet works fine, after a while I will lose signal, Like right now, I've lost signal typing up this thread. Im still connected to the network but I've lost a connection to the internet. I had installed windows xp after this, and everything worked perfectly. I had no trouble with wireless networks. Now I restored back to Vista, and I'm having this problem again, and Im getting sick of it, any help would be much appreciated, It randomly connects and disconnects to the internet, im 100% sure i have the vista drivers and they are all new, thank you.

Hi,
I'm not sure if this will be of any help, but there is an evaluation tool provided by Microsoft to check your connectivity. It works on both Vista and Xp. Here I'll post a link for you

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/using/tools/igd/default.mspx

I had problems with Vista on a wireless setup but now I've switched to wired. So yeah it seems buggy. Maybe this will provide you with some answers though. Good Luck.

Ok Summoner,

I did some looking and I'm wondering if the "tool" said Upnp was unsupported it could be the adapter that your using that is causing the problem. On Dynex's website if I look up Wireless G USB Adapter I get a hit on an adapter which looks like a thumb drive. This particular model doesn't support Vista.

http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-529-29-d...20-adapter.aspx

But then when doing a search for Vista compatible adapters it returned this

http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-594-dynex...rk-adapter.aspx

So I have to wonder since you said that "set-up" for the adapter was problematic if it is in fact not Vista capable. Even though you were able to find drivers and install. Take a look and see what you think. You may have better luck with a Wireless G card instead. Keep us posted on what you find out.
