Hi I'm new to the dvd copying scene and I've been using CloneDVD2 recently to backup a few DVDs of mine. It works great but I've noticed a slight drop in quality in the backups, even though the quality bar in CloneDVD2 was at 100%. In your experience, what programs have preserved the quality of the original DVD best, or is it expected that the quality will diminish when backing up DVDs?

Either start copying to DL discs.
Or use DvdRebuilder for top notch quality.

If you decide to burn dl disc, use Imgburn as the burning engine. IMHO best burning engine out there and free from
www.imgburn.com
Good media is required as verbatim or Ritek 2.4x dl

@ 7thsinger
Will DVDRebuilder still be able to improve when you are already at 100% with your transcoder? Like if I was doing main movie only with Shrink or CloneDVD. would I still see a difference if I ran it through DVDRebuilder, just curious.

1. use high quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim burning at 6x to 8x max.
2. do the movie only to keep the compression down
3. DVD+R DL is an option
4. DVD Rebuilder will yeild the best quality backup, its an encoder not a transcoder like clonedvd, dvd shrink etc.
if you're at 100% with clonedvd i don't see how there would be a quality difference between the backup and the store bought dvd

Like Zoso said, their should not be a quality difference if no compression is necessary.
DvdRB is a great encoder for high quality backups.

That it was I thought, but then I got to wondering if maybe something could be lost transcoding even if you were at 100%. Probably nothing noticable even if did occur. But I thought just for the sake of knowledge I would go ahead and ask. Thanks guys.

Sounds like an upconverting dvd player is in order for you to view your backed up dvds on your HD tv (for better definition)

If you are at 100% then you don't need to transcode or decode, burn right to disc with Imgburn.
