I got tired of my discs getting scratched so I just got a 40 gig official sony HDD and HD advance. But for some reason I can't get HD advance to format the HDD and I can't access to the HDD (while using an enclosure case) with my pc any tips?

Make sure the jumper setting is on master while the hdd is in the ps2 and on slave while it is in the PC. I suggest you use a utility called Winhiip (google it) to format and install games on your HDD through your PC. Since you have the original sony hdd, the drive is probably already formatted for ps2 - thus, Windows will not recognize the drive, but Winhiip will.

I did what you told me and used winhiip to format and load the games off my pc. I thought it worked. Unfortunately now my ps2 does not recognize my hdd but my pc still does does.

sorry, never mind about that last comment, the little plastic piece for the master or slave mode fell off.

Haha, happens to me all the time. I was doing the set up for a friend and completely forgot about jumpers for like a whole day and a half. Damn little pieces of plastic.

Does everything work well now?

Glad to hear it.

Be sure to check the model number of the prospective drive on http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/?p=list before making a purchase. Some drives just aren't compatible, but most are. Avoid Western Digital drives, as their large size requires hardware modification of the network adapter.
