Help!
Problem: I'm having consistent failures with one batch of CDs, but my supplier said they tested fine. Where is the fault?
Background: I've been using a Microboards DSR-8880 10-bay CD tower duplicator (8x speed) for a few years now and have not been having major problems. We use CDRs that have been silkscreened in advance. We had a problem with one batch of Riteks a couple of years ago, and so we have been getting Mitsui CDs instead.
Current problem: One of our products (about 685Mb) is consistently failling on this new batch of CDs. It seems to be working fine when I burned it on some recent Riteks (in the interim while waiting for supplies), but when I burn it on my newest batch of Mitsuis from my supplier, I am getting at least 80% failure.
My supplier has tested the failures and newer disks and have not been able to reproduce the failure.
The disks usually either fail right at the beginning of the burn, or right at the end.
Tried Solutions: I've reinstalled the Microboards software, moved the tower to a dedicated surge-protected power supply. I'm still getting the failures. I've burned in smaller batches and at half-speed (4x), and the failure rate gets better, but is still at least an unacceptable 40% failure.
Help: How can I prove where the issue is? Is there a way I can test my unit for problems? I don't have another tower to test the disks, is there another way? How can I find the fault and prove it? (If it's the disks, I want to prove it to the supplier.) I've tried using a different master.
I've tried various things, but nothing really improves the situation to acceptable levels. Any ideas?
