hello everyone, i've read tons of different forms in afterdawn here about PS2 modding and such. i must say this is the ultimate form website for sure. anyway, all that i have been reading are for older models.

i have the 79001 ps2 slim. there is so many things to consider what moding my ps2 and i've been reading for hours finding all info i can to help but im just not finding it for a noob like me.

i'm wanting to play my backup'ed games on my PS2 that i have. so far what i've researched is magic swap from another post will work with my model but will not play DL dvd's. and im looking at the popular chip mods like MATRIX INFINITY(not sure if they havent updated in awhile but my version isn't on there im not sure that it will work), and i can't use the USB mod or the MC free loader because of some new hardware with different drivers or firmware that are generic to make the USB route not work.

what would be the best route for moding my PS2 to play my backup games? i dont think i would care about swaping disc's but not being able to play DL. might. i'm pretty sure i can get someone to solder for me.

also, i've been reading people having trouble with some games (ex: FFXII) that they have to patch these games to play. is that only for the free MC loader? not for the mod chips or swap magic?

what other programs might i need other then alcohol 120 to backup my games?

thanks everyone for your time!

First of all, it helps to convert the model number into the version of ps2 you have. The scene refers almost everything to the version of the ps2. You can determine which version you have here:

http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm
Edit: Whoops, your model number isn't there. Sorry.

That should help make your searching easier.
It's hard to say what's the best method for you, as I only work with fat Ps2 models.

As for FFXII, that patch only applies to HDLoader compatibility methinks. Either way, if you search the net for the patch, you will surely find it and be able to patch your iso.

yea i have SCPH-79001... its not on the web site but ... i'm guessing its v16? hehe. i did read somewhere that the v15 is identical... not sure how to take that.

thats cool, i was wondering that about the patches... so im guessing aside from that DNAS auth. code on the disc. the patches and stuff refer only to games played off HD's . not from backup dvd's.

thanks for the reply!!

anyone else on a good method of modding? magic swap or a chip? with my version and compatibility with games?
