Post-TMPGEnc Problems, no reconizing my MPEG

ok, i have encoded two movies in TMPGEnc, but... i cannot open either of the final products. i tried adding an extension to the end of them but that still didnt work. i have tried opening them in gspot(which didnt recongnize them) and i could not open it in windows media player 9, it just said that it is missing the necessary codecs or smthing similar.

also, is it because when i was in the wizard, i unchecked the auto setting and set it as high as it would go under the video bitrate thing (i was assuming that this was picture quality and because the size of the file was going up that it be a much better product!!)
