Just so everyone is aware there is spam going around on Xbox Live. Some state that you can get free MS points by visiting a website, some talk about bew online gaming sites like Gamebattles. DO NOT FOLLOW ANY OF THE INSTRUCTIONS AND SIGN INTO THE WEBSITE!!!
If you do they will use youe Windows Live ID, which will be highjacked. That means that you will lose access to everything associated with it like Messenger, Xbox.com, and Hotmail.
It works like this, a person gets the message and visits the site, then signs in. That person has their account jacked so no the messages start going out to everyone on their contact list as if it were a message from a friend. The first i saw of it was this weekend and i know a lot of people who got it and a few who got jacked for checking it.
Another note is that some people have bank cards and credit cards tied to their Xbox Live accounts. Once they take your ID you can't even sign in to change them, and Xbox Live Support will not do it either so your only course of action is to cancel them and have new cards issued.

Yea... I got a message a month or so back from a LIVE member giving me a site for free points. I knew right away what it was. I checked it out, and sure enough, they don't want you to register... they want you to sign in with your gamertag and password. Idiots. I reported it to LIVE.
On a side note... LIVE doesn't make it too easy to try and report fraud. You'd think they'd have a section set up just for it. But they don't.

Yeah, I reported a website company selling copied games, and Microsoft didn't seem to care at all, and got the runaround. It's like guys, im trying to help you guys out by pointing out some company doing something so stupid like selling copied games.

That is because MS generally has a bunch of uncaring, read the answers from a book, idiots working for them. If it is not in their little manual then they just seem to brush it off.
You would figure with the way they ban people for playing copied games online that someone selling them on the internet would be a big concern. Or the fact that phishing websites are stealong people's Live ID's and then running up their credit cards on the account to (so i have read) $800 (which are usually disputed and at lest 50% of them not paid) or more in MS points they would care about that.
But MS like most huge corporations will make money on you anyway, so they just don't.

thats probable because you 'turned in' a guy from craigs list that you have to brag about everytime you make a new name since you are to stupid to get the point that no-one here cares about anything you have to say, and MS would much rather focus on someone that is selling thousands of pirated games a day rather than a few here and there.

on your friend question, you can receive a message from anyone on LIVE unless you have it set to only accept messages from people on your friends list.

nixz, to answer your question.
The thing is that if one person on your friends list visits the site, then they jack their Windows Live ID. Which simply means the message could come from hotmail or it could come through the Xbox or even Windows Messenger. And all will appear as if your friend sent it to you. And they are written in a way that emulates how gamers talk to each other like "woot! I found a great site you have to check out where you can get 5000 MS points"
So it is a wicked little game. They get everyone on both your hotmail and Xbox Live friends list all in one shot. Then it send the same type of spam to each end every one of them. And if one of those people happens to visit the site then they get all of theirs too.....and so on, and so on.
People then realize exactly how much that ID is tied to. Hotmail, MSN Messenger (both on PC and Xbox), The Xbox.com site, Forzamotorsports website, and any other game site that uses that ID as it's primary sign it. You just plain lose access to any of it.
And you may sit there and ask yourself "how the heck does he know the ins and outs of this whole deal?"
Simple answer, when you share an account with someone in your house who is not bright enough to know spam when they see it, then this can happen to you.
I lost my ID, I had to cancel my bank card which was saved in my Xbox Live profile for buying things (so they could not run up any bills), and i lost access to all the mentioned sites.
A call to Xbox live cough..cough.."tech support" will just have you filling out the Microsoft support forms because they will do absolutly nothing. Then you have to wait endlessly for a MS tech who is bright enough to look outside of his little guide book to eamil you back. See it seems that they are not even able to correctly identify the problem, even when they exact problems is one of the choices you chose on the support form.
Example: The form has a drop down box about what the problem is which states "I think my ID has been hijacked" (not word for word but it does state what you think would be obvious)
They send an email back a day later telling me sorry, i can not help you solve this let me forward this onto the appropriet department.
So now you on day three and you get an email from the "correct" department giving you every generic "why i can not sign in" answer in their little book.
Ok so now you have to take the time to reply and tell them that signing in is not the problem THE ACCOUNT WAS HIJACKED!! Meaning they change the information and password so it is not a simple case of just having to reset the passord.
This is where i stand now, day four, waiting for the next wrong answer to what i thought was a pretty strait forward problem.
Thank you all for letting me vent, i am now calm enough not to beat someone senseless (like they were not already) again tonight.

day 5 update:
Well i finally get an email that gives me hope. They play a nice game of 90 questions (The MS version of the popular game 20 questions) so that they can try to verify that what you are telling them is in fact true and that the account is in fact yours. So that was filled out and emailed back. The response came back the next day (as MS has a 24hr turn around time for any email you send) and it appears that i will soon be able to put all this behind me.

Whoa!! Steimy that's obsurd. The love from Microsoft is just overflowing huh? Well thanks for looking out for others though, hopefully your ordeal will save somebody else from the same fate! And, of course, good luck getting it straightened out.

I will just keep updating this to keep myself sane. Got the email at 8AM this morning with the hopes of getting this sorted out. Was supposed to have come with a second email with the actual fix.
So i reply back that the second email never came.......and i wait
4 hours later i send another email that it still has not come....and i wait (you seeing a theme here yet?)
Now 7.5 hours later and still.....i wait
This is why tech support should not be outsourced to foreign countries. The time zone difference is too drastic and answers come (what is for you) a day later then they should, like say 4AM in my case.
PS thanks for the well wishes lillith88, one of these days i will actually be able to post that the problem id solved

yeah, MS is SSSSLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW getting things done, but in the end they did come through and get me what i need to take back control of the account from the witless spammers who tried to jack me. I am sure they got enough people who were not smart enough to cancel the cards on their accounts immediately so that they could rack up bills buying $800 in MS points and then selling them on Ebay or something.
