I am having trouble playing back on a DVD player after converting it from AVI to DVD using winavi.

The quality and sound are perfect, but i get this lagginess effect, where it seems the picture is trying to catch up.

I convert using winavi and select the option to convert at lowest quality....preference by speed not quality, and a sound bitrate of 160000.
i fiddled with the settings but for some reason i always get this effect, is it because its AVI to DVD in which case what file types do i need to download to burn them to DVD to get a good framerate and quality?
or is their something i am doing wrong when converting?

Thanks for any help.

Is the problem apparent when you play the disk on the PC.

Try converting with DVD Flick;see if it makes a difference.
DVD Flick will output the new files to a folder and optionally burn the disk.
Play the files in the folder, then play the disk on the PC.
If they are both ok, then the standalone should also have no problems.

The program has a helpful and concise guide included.
Note that in the project settings under video to select NTSC or PAL for the video type (North America is NTSC ;EU and Australasia is PAL)

Thanks, it is the same on the pc when its been converted.
Maybe its because i am converting an NTSC to PAL.

but because i live in the UK i need the format to be in PAL, unless my dvd player is all region which i am not sure about.

Does that actually matter? i mean if i convert the file from NTSC to PAL, if so can i convert the file to NTSC and still play it on my dvd player even tho i am in UK.

the files i download are axxo's dvd rips.
i think axxo is an american so the files would be in NTSC not sure tho.

AFAIK, in the UK, standalone players can play NTSC dvd's without a problem.
Try it with DVD Flick and see if there is a difference.
