In relation to a 2x Ritek 3 generation disc most likely. Usually they are the type of dyes used in the disc. The G04 on the -R discs indicates the type of dye that is used.

Thanks, I guess I should have mentioned that I was refering to +R 8x dvd disk. I assume the answer is the same for either +R or -R.

Yeah, i've seen the codes myself on teh Ritek 8x, though only on a Datasafe 8x DVD+R. I can find out for you if you wish.

I have found out for you. This is a quote direct from Ritek distributors:
