i have been trying to flash my ms28 drive using the xblaster360 next edition and ntfs4dos it all goes fine and i can see my drive but when i type idump xxxxxxx xxxxx (serial) it stays on 00% i turn the 360 off for 10 sec but nothing
any help would be appreciated.
Im assuming that the drive hasnt been flashed before, If this is the case you will need to check that your sata card is compatible with the MS28 drive. Most people use a VIA sata card to do the 10 second trick Some other sata cards have been known to work with the MS28.
You could try using the "activate.iso" trick this comes with the xtreme firmware it comes with version 3 of the firmware and other versions but I used V.3, basically burn it to a blank DVD+R DL dont need to bother with the layer break setting, once you've burnt it to disc switched off your PC, start up the Xbox 360 insert the disc you just burnt wait 20 seconds for the disc to do its thing, the activate.iso basically disables the Firmguard which is stoping you from updateing the firmware, there are no guarantees that this will work, remove the disc from the xbox and leave the 360 on then start up the PC and repeat the steps for flashing the 360 using your method, inserting the serial etc, if your sata card is ok it should start dumping without the 10 sec trick.
If it doesnt you'll need to get a VIA sata card that is compatible, the Via 6421 chipset is the one that does the job. The MS28 drive is known for being tricky to flash because of a slight hardware difference which locks the firmware, there is a way to open the drive and perform a slight modification on the drive to temporarily stop this issue but I wouldnt advise unless you know what your doing with a soldering iron, and if you have a Xblaster as I have the last thing you wanna do is keep opening the drive up everytime you wanna update it, defeats the object of the Xblaster so the via sata card is the way to go if you sata isnt compatible.
I flashed my drive last year, which was an MS25 originally, when you flash these drives with Ixtreme it by default makes them think they are an MS28 drives you get an option to spoof as an MS25 my mistake but I think i didnt set it to spoof as MS25 so it made the drive think it was an MS28 which caused issues, so when I tried to update the firmware using the sata that had worked previously it did as you are experiencing just locked and no matter how I tried the 10 sec trick wouldnt budge, using the activate.iso trick made it work instantly, I know this has worked for others flashing the MS28 its really a question of whether your sata chipset is compatible or capable.
What type of sata do you have, onboard, or a seperate addon card, if its onboard check out your board spec or you could look in your device list. Right click "My Computer" then devices it should tell you there.
what board is it, kie model?, if you right click "My Computer" then sellect device list your sata should be listed there. or go to your board manufacturer site and search your board it should be there.
Once you get those details you can check whether its compatible, textbooks tutorial covers this.
