I need help, please
After 2 weeks trying to make it right, finally I write this in the forum.
I normally download AVI movie, and burn it to DVD-R and it plays well with my DVD with DivX feature. Problem starts one day when it won't play and showing "NO CODEC"
What I did :
- Using Virtualdub, compress it with XVid codec, but still don't solve the problem.
- Install FFDshow, using Virtualdub, and compress it with FFDshow codec, also don't solve the problem
My question :
- Have I done something wrong ?
- What shall I do ?
Hope that someone can help me.
Thanks

Is this problem with one AVI or many.
Do the downloaded files play on the PC.
Is this a message on the PC or the standalone player.

The message " NO CODEC" is from the player. When I play it with VLC, it works well.
Hope it is clear

Do you have previously recorded DivX files on disk that still play ok on the standalone.
If they are still ok, can you compare them with GSpot or Mediainfo to see the difference.

Hi attar,
yes, I compared both AVIs, and both have XVID codec under Gspot. Actually it is a Korean drama AVI. Episode 1-2 are ok, but the rest are NO CODEC when played in the player.
Any suggestion ?
Thanks

All I can think of is that the file falls outside of the standards eg the resolution is more than 720x576 or the audio is the wrong type.
If you compare a working file to a bad file, see if they differ.

Hi Attar,
you are right, the good AVIs have dimension of 640 x 352 and bitrate of 192 kbps, while the bad ones have dimension of 800 x 450 and bitrate of 128 kbps.
Any idea how to adjust this to the good ones ?
Thanks

Try 'AVIdemux'
Load the file.
Click Video => Filters => ..double click 'Resize' and set size 640x352 Lanczos, Apply and Close.
Click 'Save' and give the file a new name including the extension e.g new.avi
Edit:in the main panel, left side under 'Video', change the setting from 'Copy' to an appropriate setting ('resizing' implies recoding).
Good luck.

Hi Attar,
when I opened the AVI file, this message appear :
H.264 detected
If the file is using B-frames as reference it can lead to a crash or stuttering.
Avidemux can use another mode which is safe but YOU WILL LOSE FRAME ACCURACY.
So I choose cancel, it goes to build frame menu
After finished, then follow your instruction to resize the file, but fail to change to 640 x 352 each time I click "apply". It goes back to original size 800x450.
But finally managed to do that by just cliking ok, but not apply.
After encoding, the new.avi file doesn't want to resize to 640 x 352 and still keep the 800x450 dimension. Maybe the filter is not functioning.
Any suggestion from your side ?
Thanks

I think with this file (h264) after loading, on the left side of the screen, under 'Video' change from 'Copy' to 'XVID' and 'Audio' from 'Copy' to 'MP3' - then resize.
Check the video/audio sync before burning.

It works, problem solved. Thanks for the guidance.
For the bitrate, any software to increase to 192 kbps ?

On the left panel, under Video, use the 'Configure' button to set the bitrate.

Which setting to be used ?
Single Pass (Bitrate or Quantisizer) or Two Pass (Video Size or Average Bitrate )
Thanks

Two pass is better quality, takes longer.

Hi Attar,
I am back here with another problem with AVIDEMUX, hope that you could help me.
As usual, I am resizing some HD AVI, but recently had 2 problems :
AVI no. 1 : AVI output's audio (using XVID and MP3 filter when resize) becomes not sync, picture quality is OK.
AVI no. 2 : AVI output's audio (using XVID and MP3 filter when resize) becomes shaking, audio quality is OK and sync.
any idea how to fix this ?
Thanks

Sorry, correction.
AVI no. 2 : AVI output's video (using XVID and MP3 filter when resize) becomes shaking/vibrating, audio quality is OK and sync.
Hope it is clear.
Thanks
