ive got my friend/professional solder coming tomorrow to solder a d2ckey in but he asked if i could open the wii to save time, is it safe to open the wii but keep the top cover on the dvd drive and keep it in a desk or something? or is there a possibility of it .. i dont know short circuiting?

I will let you know that, opening the wii is not very hard to do.
You will need a tri-screw driver.

And yes it is safe to leave it open, but you can unplug it.

Did you say D2CKey? Like as in 32 wire D2CKey? Wow, i hope your friend has mad skills with the iron....Anyways, no problem with taking the wii apart/leaving it sit, if you've ever taken apart a computer the same basic rules apply.
