Hello
I have an XBox 360 which has been chipped to play the usual backups.
I have found that on some of my backups when I play them the unit seems to scratch the discs and renders them useless.
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this is happening?
I have looked on the Internet and found some discussion on this but nothing that really states why other than the owner must be shaking the unit in some way.
I have to say that my 360 is my pride and it sits on a shelf where no one but me touches it and it certainly never gets moved vigorously or otherwise.

Hey Frazer,

I know a couple of people with this problem. And from what I've heard from Microsoft this is a known defect in some consoles. The preferred method is to test your 360 as soon as you buy it to see if it does in fact scratch your disks so you can send it in to Microsoft to have it repaired or, of course, return it to the store for a new one. Your 360 may still be under warranty? If not you will definantly need to have this fixed unless you can live with it. But it's probably not something that you did to cause this. It's a known issue.

Discs getting the circular scratch patterns on them has been a issue that people have been dealing with for a while now. Both in modded and unmodded consoles.

It is usually the laser assembly touching the disc and causing this. Read the below article fully and you may be able to fix the problem.

It's frustrating when you take care of your equipment to find things like this happening.
