I installed anyDVD the other day (for legit backup of son's much-used DVD getting scratched through use)and, since then, I have been having problems burning SVCDs from .avi files (which I have been doing fine for years with no problems).
At the end of transcoding, the NeroVision Express 3 window just closes and the Nero Smartstart appears.
Occasionally I get a "Nero has experienced a problem and needs to close" and, if I send the error reprt to Microsoft, get a link saying it's related to a system32 file lmpgspl.ax (Ligos mpeg2 splitter, I think)
The Microsoft site says that I should update that file (already most recent), uninstall the program (? - most unhelpful instructions)or unregister the file (I'm sure it must be needed or why is it there?).
The date of the file indicates it's been there for a while prior to installing that program No recent modification date either.
Uninstalling the AnyDVD program and rebooting hasn't seemed to make much of a difference either.
The odd thing is, Nero WILL burn a single file to SVCD but not multiple ones.
I may be adding 2+2 and getting 5 in thinking it was AnyDVD that caused the problem but, before installing it, I had no problems and haven't had a coaster for years.
Apart from reinstalling Nero, anyone any ideas?

OK let's forget about anydvd, they assure me it doesn't mess with the codecs at all nor install anything that could.
I can't get a restore point to work from the last time Nero worked fine either so that's out.
I do notice that the system tray only shows the ffdshow audio codec in use - not the video one so I suspect that may point to something.
Tried setting ffdshow to be default for everything but no luck.
It still crashes (usually without any error report at all - just back to the smartstart - as soon as encoding finishes).
I am quite used to conflicts with codecs where one gets the "transcoding fails" and looking through the error report but this doesn't give an option for a report - just resets itself so no chance of posting the log etc .
Before reinstalling Nero (messy) I would really like some other suggestions first. I have used Nero for years with few errors but this one is a new one on me.

A clean reinstall of Nero hasn't worked.
I can still burn CDs (music) and photo slideshows (SVCD) without problems.
Thinking the converter (from flv to avi using Xvidcodec) may have been to blame, I tried converting to Divx to see if that helped.
It did in a way - it burned the disc fine and then up came the "Nero has............ and needs to close" etc.
I have the distinct feeling that something has been altered somewhere and is conflicting with Nero.
I'm extremely suspicious of the fact I can't use system restore from before I installed that AnyDVD program but they say it wouldn't cause any problems.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas (other than reformat the drive), I'd be interested.

Finally got Nero to uninstall (forgot the clean registry tool).
Yes, the problem was caused by a conflict and the reinstallation (clean) seems to have fixed it.
The cause WAS the splitter Nero was trying to use as a another installed program was causing windows to use the wrong codec.
When in doubt, clean reinstall!
