I got this movie on my HD but I am having trouble playing it. I just got this new PC from a friend who built it from scratch.

I was reading the other thread and downloaded the AVIcodec which says:

C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

File : 1.28 GB (1.28 GB), duration: 2:24:20, type: AVI,
1 audio stream(s), quality: 78 %, ,

Video : 1.05 GB, 1047 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 664*272 (2.44:1),
XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Unsupported

Audio : 231 MB, 224 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, VBR, , Supported

Anyway when I try to play it all I get supported is sound but not video. What codec would I need for XVID Mpeg 4?

Thanks

Sounds like you need the XviD codec.
FFDSHOW is a good choice.
Combined with a player like MPC should play most video.

Or you could get the VLC player - it has it's own internal codecs.

What would be best to turn the XVID into a DVD so I can burn it?

I hate the big videogame comapnies.
Those big videogame companies KILLED my father.
Well NOT really, but they HURT him pretty badly.

'DVD Flick' - the short guide that comes with it is straightforward.

Is this error etc message from DVD flick or Windows or an antivirus program?
I assume this PC is running XP, I don't know anything about Vista.

You can try the freeware 'VSODivXtoVd' to convert the AVI to DVD format.
It's an old program, but still serviceable.
The output will be in a separate folder.
Burn the folder to disk with 'ImgBurn'.
